This is how ceramic implant treatment works at our practice – from the first consultation to the finished crown. And why, in many cases, we can remove the tooth, place the implant and fit a temporary restoration before you leave the practice.
The path
We listen first: what bothers you, what you would like, what previous illnesses and intolerances there are. Then a 3D X-ray of the jaws (CBCT) and an intraoral scan – a digital 3D impression of your jaws. Together they form a precise planning model, which we use to explain your situation clearly. You receive an initial assessment on the same day and the written treatment and cost plan within a few days.
Well-nourished bone is an important prerequisite for healing. We test vitamin D3 and relevant micronutrients, correct deficiencies and, where needed, remove metals or chronically inflamed teeth beforehand. If you are travelling from far away, you can have the blood tests done by your GP.
If the bone is stable, we remove the tooth, place the ceramic implant directly into the fresh socket and – where possible – fit a fixed long-term temporary from our laboratory. You then go home with a tooth. Where needed, we support healing with PRGF from your own blood.

The zirconia bonds with the bone and the gums settle around it. During this time we see you briefly two or three times – if you travel from afar, check-ups can be coordinated with your local dentist. Significant discomfort is the exception; many patients return to their everyday routine the next day.
After healing, we scan the implant and make the all-ceramic crown or bridge in our in-house master dental laboratory – colour, shape and surface matched to your neighbouring teeth. It is fitted at the second appointment. After that: follow-up care every six months.
Our principle
All five steps follow an order that begins in the mind before the first appointment takes place: first we decide what the finished tooth should look like. Everything else follows from that.
From the 3D X-ray and intraoral scan we first design the tooth: shape, position, gum line. Only then do we decide where the implant has to sit for it – in the best bone, but always in the axis of the future crown. This is how implant and crown become a tooth, not a compromise.
With us, the team that places your implant also plans and fits the crown – at both locations, with the master laboratory in the same building. Surgery and prosthetics have been in one pair of hands for more than 30 years. For you, that means one contact from planning to the check-up in ten years’ time.
Immediate implant placement
With the conventional approach, the gap first heals for three to six months, then the implant is placed, and then there is more waiting. During this time, bone is lost. Immediate implant placement uses the moment when the bone is still fully present – and spares you one operation and months without a tooth.
The prerequisite is sufficiently stable bone and inflammation-free tissue – we check this on the 3D X-ray of the jaws (CBCT). Immediate implant placement is possible in more than 90 % of our cases. Where it is not, we tell you in advance and plan the safe route.
On the day of the procedure
A single implant with a temporary takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Allow two hours.
Local anaesthesia is almost always sufficient. We deliberately treat without general anaesthesia – for safety reasons.
Slight swelling is possible; significant pain is rare. If needed, a painkiller as agreed with us, soft food, no load on the temporary.
Many patients are able to work again the next day. If you travel from further away: one overnight stay, a check-up the next morning, then the journey home.
Even in difficult situations
Questions about the procedure
As a rule, no – the procedure takes place under the same anaesthesia, and because the tissue is preserved, many patients find it less stressful than an extraction followed by a separate implant procedure later.
The temporary is there for speaking and smiling, not for chewing. You should not put any load on it during the first weeks – we point this out explicitly because it protects the healing process.
Usually three: initial consultation with diagnostics, implant placement with an overnight stay and a check-up the following day, and the final restoration with two appointments within one week. Interim check-ups can be carried out by your local dentist.
Not routinely. We rely on preparing the immune system and on clean technique, supplemented by PRGF where needed. For certain pre-existing conditions or procedures, we decide on an individual basis.
This is rare, but even with careful planning it can never be ruled out completely – healing is a biological process. If an implant does not heal in, we place a new one once the area has healed. We do not charge you for the replacement implant, and we also accommodate you on the costs of the repeat procedure. We set out the arrangement in advance in your treatment and cost plan.
